California Buckwheat

Calif. buckwheat
California buckwheat in bloom

Buckwheat blooming bright at dawn,
Cattle munching on the lawn,
Mowers cutting grass for hay—
Perfect rural summer's day!

Great pic! I didn't know that was what Buckwheat looked like. Love your poetry!

How pretty is this fall of dense blossom! I have never seen buckwheat before! In some ways it reminds me of the dense clustering buddleia flower that attracts butterflies. Lots of this flower can be found at Boneo Maze near wetlands on the Mornington Peninsula.

How funny to actually see buckwheat for the first time in my life.
In Norwegian this "oriental" growth has been translated to bookwheat.
I have wondered why it got that special name. a herb for bucks is something I easily can understand and relate to.
Thanks for broadening my horizon and for the beauty of a rare flower in a poem.

Gorgeous shot of a lovely blossom. The red is almost orange.
