On the walkways round the Yarra River in Melbourne are many colourful elephants.
They celebrate the 150th anniversary of Melbourne Zoo.

Bulky big red guy Trumpeting for attention A photo delight
I love seeing communities using this kind of artwork to celebrate an event or raise money for charity. I have seen butterflies in st. Louis, horses in Louisville, Kentucky, giant letter O's in Omaha nebraska and the recent elephants in florida for the Republican convention.

We cannot underestimate the change in character that a few accessories make. Instead of a dull gray, this pachyderm is now a modern updated icon. Nice glasses too!
Very colorful! One summer we had painted cows all over NYC—but if there was a point, I don't remember what it was. :~} By all means, let's safeguard these splendid animals!

Love it. There was a great visit from the Cow Parade people a few years back and you see them here and there. Wish they'd come back.
ReplyDeleteI love this elephant! I've pinned it! We had a series of giant sculptures too: orcas, bears and currently those terracotta warriors.
