Doorway to Adventure

Photobucket
An enticing doorway in Zacatecas, Mexico

They told me to look behind the dark door,
The door that was outlined in red.
They said that I’d find some gold on the floor—
At least, that’s how I heard it said.

But when the door cracked and I went within,
I found only dust, and no gold;
Dejected and poor, I’ve taken to gin—
And now my sad story is told.

Poor thing, looking for gold and finding only dust.

I like the scrollwork on the door, very graceful looking.

At first glance I thought this was a massive door but the scrollwork and raised panels give it a much lighter feel.
LOVE the poem!

Hi! It's my first time to join Ruby Tuesday 2. That door is surely enticing though you can only find dust. Nice Poem!

Beautiful blurred door. Massive it is though? I don't get the graffiti, but kind of sad that a thing of beauty should deteriorate this way.
Then again, like the wrinkles in my face tell about a lived life, so does the fading of the once grand door.

Wonder what is really behind the door? I'm hoping a restaurant!

Lots of character in this beautifully designed doorway! How unusual to find a black door in a red wall!

The doors may be a portal to riches or fame. If not, and if expectations were not met, what can we say? The search for riches behind an unknown set of doors is a risk we all may undertake...

That dusty door lends itself beautifully to your prose, MMT. Good one!

I love this doorway. The door is far-out. And I love how vivid the red walls are.

The way this poem sounded, it sounded like it was part of a scavenger hunt clue. :D
